![]() ![]() What makes you so certain that this game will receive an official patch to support such features once the servers are shut down? All these games received no official patches to support offline mode nor allow people to host their own servers. IOI will release an offline patch, obviously. Originally posted by Hardware:> What happens once the servers get shut down? So if that works as they've said they plan, they won't need to make all the online content playable offline until they go broke or close their only (!) franchise: Hitman 2 (2018) won't go offline just because Hitman 7 (2028) has shipped.Īnd it also means that anyone coming into the franchise with Hitman 7 (2028) has the chance to spend money and play the preceding thirty-six story missions first, so it's also financially better for IOI to do it this way.Īlthough I'd hate to look at the 'Elusive Targets' list and see 10 years of missed targets. That's part of why they released the Legacy content with Hitman 2 but awarded it through the IOI Account, despite it being clearly an engine evolution, and the original was still available on Steam so cross-game DLC checks were possible: They don't control Hitman (2016) well enough to commit to it long-term as the game launcher/hub, even though Square/Enix have avowed themselves of it and all Square/Enix branding has been removed. If every iteration of Hitman from now on have 100% or close to 100% of the content of the previous games is there a need in their perspective to patch an offline mode as all contents are essentially available? Though obviously the argument for is that the amount of effort needed for an offline patch is quite low.Īs I've read elsewhere, IOI have said that now that they control the franchise again, Hitman 2 (2018) will form a hub for future seasons as well. One could also argue, or IOI can at least. In a completely different game I play, Elite Dangerous, where it is always online too they have claimed that when the game server is shutting down, they will have offline patch, yet most people are still sceptical that they would. Because when the servers finally (and probably will at some stage) go down it either would be unexpected circumstance like IOI goes out of business completely or that we are 3 or 4 Hitman games in the future, and IOI might not bother with patching the game. Because the status quo is that there is no patch, it is awfully presumptous that there will be a patch. Whereas booting the modern Hitman games up in offline mode, I believe none of your unlocks are available, and therefore the game is severely limited. The main issue of Absolutuon servers is not to do with popularity and whatnot, it has a lot of to do with the EU and data protection, as well as aforementioned Square Enix. Even if this game only lasted 7 years I'm pretty sure we'll have all moved on by then.Ībsolution servers shutting down has a less of a severe impact.įrom what I understand, Absolution servers mainly has to do with Contracts components, whereas most of the single player aspects are essentially offline it doesn't affect anyone who wants to just experience the game. Ioi has lasted 20 years, they aren't in any danger of shutting down any time soon.Įven comparing Absolution (which is entirely Squares fault) the servers for that still lasted 7 years. ![]() ioi now partners with WB for production, but is not owned by anyone. Square then let ioi "buy themselves" back into independence. Ioi was originally independent, partnered with Eidios and then purchased by Eidos which was then bought by Square. Ioi is no longer owned by anyone and the servers for the most recent two games are their own and not subject to idiot publisher decisions. We've seen what happens if servers get shut off, Absolutions servers were shut down however, you need to pay attention to the simple reality of the events that led to that: ioi was owned by Square back when Absolution was made and it was Square that shut down those servers. Unless ioi goes out of business they've already said they have no intentions of shutting off the servers. They partnered with the WB for manufacturing, testing and distribution but ioi retains all rights to the series and controls the servers. This franchise sells more on console than on PC and ioi does not produce their own discs/packaging. Warner Brothers has absolutely nothing to do with the servers. What happens once Warner Bros decides "Hitman 2 is no longer bringing a steady profit and we are pulling the plug"? The offline mode of this video game has severe limitations compared to the online mode (which is online just for the sake of it and would work perfectly offline). ![]() Originally posted by Tazor:The market is littered with video games that no longer support online play as they were no longer bringing in a steady profit, which received no updates to allow people to keep playing online using their own machine or another 3rd party server. ![]()
